Cliffside Park, New Jersey Marital Status Discrimination Lawyers

New Jersey Employment Discrimination Attorneys

Both New Jersey and New York law prohibit employers from engaging in marital status discrimination toward their employees. For example, that means your company is not allowed to decide who it is going to hire, fire, promote or demote based on the fact that you are married, single, legally separated or divorced. In fact, your company should not even ask you about your marital status during a job interview.

Marital status discrimination at work often is based on assumptions and stereotypes about individuals due to their marital status rather than based on facts. For example, instead of evaluating an employee or job candidate based on his or her own merit, a company might assume an employee who is married is more stable or dependable, or an employee who is single is more willing or available to work overtime.

Often, these types of stereotypes are different for men than for women, especially for women who are pregnant or have young children, resulting in a combination of gender discrimination and marital status discrimination. It is unlawful for your company to make employment decisions based on stereotypes or assumptions based on marital status, gender, pregnancy or any other legally protected category. About Cliffside Park, New Jersey

The Borough of Cliffside Park was incorporated in 1895. The Palisades Amusement Park, which was in business for more than 70 years, from 1898 to 1971, was located in Cliffside Park and Fort Lee. Although it was one of the most visited amusement parks in the United States, it eventually was replaced by high-rise apartment buildings. As of the 2020 census, the Borough’s population was nearly 25,700.

The Borough is located between the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln Tunnel. The Hudson River and New York City can be seen from several areas of the Borough because of its location just above the Hudson Palisades.
