Ramsey, New Jersey Hostile Work Environment Lawyers

New Jersey Workplace Harassment Attorneys

You should not have to experience a hostile work environment, also known as harassment, at your job. In Ramsey, and throughout both New Jersey and New York, harassment at work is illegal if it occurs because of your age, gender, pregnancy status, race, disability, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, ancestry, veteran/military status or because of your membership in another legally protected group.

Under New Jersey's Conscientious Employee Protection Act ("CEPA"), it also is illegal for your company to harass you because you objected to, disclosed or refused to participate in an activity that you reasonably believe is illegal, fraudulent, criminal, or violates a clear mandate of public policy regarding public health, safety, welfare or the protection of the environment.

What is a Hostile Work Environment?

A hostile work environment is another name for harassment. It occurs when your employer has made your working conditions so intolerable that it has, in effect, changed the terms and conditions of your employment. A hostile work environment is legally actionable when (1) it is motivated by an unlawful factor, such as one of the forms of discrimination and retaliation listed above and (2) it is either sufficiently severe (bad) or pervasive (frequent) that in effect it has changed the terms and conditions of your employment.
