With an aging workforce, age discrimination quickly has become one of the most common forms of employment discrimination in New Jersey and New York.
All too frequently, companies fire or layoff older employees based on their age, only to replace them with younger workers. Businesses often do so based on the assumption that older employees are less energetic, do not work as hard, or are either unwilling or unable to learn to perform new tasks or use new technology compared with their younger counterparts.
Of course, these stereotypes and assumptions often are wrong, and should not be the basis of employment decisions. In reality, age is likely to bring many advantages to the workplace, including additional experience, knowledge and maturity.
Age discrimination in the workplace violates the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination ("LAD"), the New York Human Rights Law ("NYHRL"), the New York City Human Rights Law ("NYCHRL") and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ("Title VII"). As a result, it is unlawful to fire, demote, harass, or take another adverse action against employees based on how old they are.

Information About EnglewoodThe City of Englewood was incorporated in March 1899. Located in Bergen County, as of 2020 it had an estimated population of 29,309. Englewood is nearly 5 square miles in size, and is bordered by Teaneck, Tenafly, Englewood Cliffs and Leonia.
The origination of the City’s name is disputed. Some people claim it is named for the Engle family who settled in the area, combined with the fact that there are many wooded areas in the region. But others claim it is a variation of the term “English Neighborhood,” based on the fact that it was one of the first English-speaking settlements on the west bank of the Hudson River. Either way, before it was named Englewood the area was known as Liberty Pole, which came from the Liberty Pole Tavern, which in turn was named for a Liberty Pole and gold Liberty Cap that were built in 1776 to celebrate the repeal of the Stamp Act.
Today, Englewood is home to the Bergen Performance Arts Center ("Bergen PAC"), Flat Rock Brook Nature Center, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, and dozens of restaurants and shops.
